Rosin - HISTORY AND PRESENT
Rosin - HISTORY AND PRESENT
In the manufacture of gold rosin Laubach, we use 999 gold, which is much softer in density than the metal on the winding of strings. Due to this, gold dust does not cause damage and the strings do not wear out more than when using simple rosin. Bow hair lies flat on the strings, while perfectly covering them and revealing the sound of the instrument.
Laubach gold rosin exhibits lasting qualities as at the increased humidity of air, and at various temperature changes, allowing to extract a strong, harmonious sound. It is indispensable for solo performances, playing in large concert halls, as well as when performed in a duet with a piano.
When buying rosin, its freshness is important. Any rosin, even the best, changes its structure over time, it simply dries. Rosin should not be used for more than 8 months, and for soloists - no longer than 6 months. Fresh rosin smooths out inaccuracies and roughness when playing. This is probably why many students are willing to use fresh rosin when preparing for and passing exams. The second important criterion for the quality of rosin is its transparency. Since rosin is made from different varieties of coniferous resin, it is impossible to allow the mixing of several varieties of rosin on the hair of the bow. This can sometimes cause an adverse reaction, making it difficult to capture the strings with bow hair. Before using rosin of a new type of hair on a bow it is necessary to clear thoroughly alcohol, in no case without touching a varnish covering of a cane of a bow. Then allow the hair to dry for at least 30 minutes, then apply fresh rosin.
