PIRASTRO violin strings
Pirastro (Germany) is one of the leading string manufacturers in Europe and worldwide. Pirastro allows musicians to choose from a wide range of gut-core, steel-core and synthetic-core strings. Besides, Pirastro offers special rosin for each type of strings it manufactures, which enables musicians to create their own unique sound.
Pirastro was founded in 1798 by a string master Giorgio Pirazzi and used to be called Giorgio Pirazzi and Sons. The firm had offices in Rome, Naples and Padua. Soon Pirazzi was invited to Germany, where he founded a factory in Offenbach am Main. In 1890, the founder’s grandson Gustav Pirazzi and his partner Theodore Strobel established a new brand called Pirastro (a combination of the first four letters of their last names). Since 1992 the company has been run by Gustavo Pirazzi's granddaughter Evah Pirazzi and her husband, the sixth generation of the Pirazzis family.
